    First, I wish you could have lived longer, I so enjoy your wit, and ability to put me in your time. Thank you for opening the door for future generations to the world you occupied. I love your language and your characters.

    Dear Jane Austen, I discovered you when I was 17 and read "Pride and Prejudice" during the summer. I had a lonely adolescence since I grew up on a farm, and you became a dear companion and friend and have been with me ever since.

    Miss Austen, you are a writer who makes your readers proud to know you. I am devoted to your literary output. Thank you for your persuasive writing, your sense and sensibility, and your wit. I hold you in great esteem.

    A dear friend departed
    To fresh shores uncharted.
    This earth did divest,
    leaving thy pen at rest.

    Desperate for more,
    The lack makes me poor.
    My loss felt anew;
    For six was too few.

    Thy wisdom and wit
    Are my ideal fit.
    Oh Jane, the celebrated,
    You my pen have animated!

    To honor this great author, earlier this year I read the complete works of Jane Austen. This includes the six novels, the short epistolary novel, the two unfinished novels and the biography written by her nephew. I also watched every movie and tv adaptation of the novels that I could get my hands on. Who knows how many more novels Jane would have written if she hadn't died so young. What would she have thought to know how popular her novels are 200 years later. Thank you Jane Austen for giving me so many hours of reading pleasure.

    To Jane, my friend, my sister (the wittier, prettier one) - thank you.

    Jane Austen has been a joy in my retirement - not only the wonderful novels, but also the companionship of Janeites and learning about personal life and European history in Jane Austen's time.

    Dear Ms. Austen:
    I thank you for all the books you have written so exquisitely. I have read them all, underlined passages, and keep going back to your books. Finally, the entire world is recognizing you, even the Bank of England! I am sorry it took 200 years. The good news is that we are still reading your books. With sincere regards, Dolores A. Phillips
