Calgary Region: Jane Austen's Halifax Connection
The Royal Navy's Ties to Halifax
Jane Austen's brothers, Charles and Francis, knew Halifax Canada well. Francis Austen lived in Halifax for six months of every year when he was Commander-in-Chief North Atlantic and West Indies Station from 1845-1848. Charles was in the North Atlantic from 1805 to 1810, and in 1826. JASNA members Judith Umbach and Deirdre Harris will describe and show us the Halifax that Jane's brothers saw and no doubt described to their sister.
