You are invited to join the New York Metropolitan region’s Birthday Meeting on December 3, 2011.  Dr. Dean Sawyer, the Executive Director of the Royal Oak Foundation will take up the subject: Beyond the Silver Screen: The National Trust Takes on Jane Austen and the Regency.

The Royal Oak Foundation is the American arm of the U.K. National Trust.  Dr. Sawyer notes that:

“Janeites are familiar with the role that the National Trust properties have played as the settings for numerous films and TV adaptations of JA’s work.  In my talk I will examine both the direct personal links with Austen at properties such as Saltram and the rich legacy of Regency architecture, decorative arts and history at Trust properties across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.  I will also discuss the Trust’s attempts to capture its share of Austen’s 21stcentury fan base in its public programming and educational programs across the UK.”

Please join us on Saturday, December 3 at 2pm at the Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Square South.  A lavish tea and a toast to Jane Austen is also on the program.  Tickets for JASNA members are $35.  Non-members are welcome at a cost of $40.  Visit the New York Metropolitan website for further information and to sign up for the event.
