“A Second Chance for Sense and Sensibility”
December 4, 2011
Join JASNA-Vermont at its December Meeting, the annual Jane Austen Birthday Tea, in celebration of the Bicentenary of Sense and Sensibility (1811). The program will include a traditional English afternoon and a talk by UVM Lecturer Rebecca McLaughlin. Regency period or afternoon tea finery is encouraged.
Rebecca McLaughlin will be speaking on “A Second Chance for Sense and Sensibility: Marianne as Heroine.” Is Sense and Sensibility not your favorite Austen novel? Using the composition history of Sense and Sensibility, Austen’s biography, Sense and Sensibility film adaptations, and the novel’s text, McLaughlin argues that Marianne is the true heroine of Austen’s first novel!
The event is scheduled for Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 2 PM through 5 PM and will be held at Champlain College, Hauke Conference Center, 375 Maple St, Burlington VT. The cost is $30 per person and guests are welcome. Registration is required by November 25, 2011. For further information and the registration form, see the Vermont blogsite or call 802-343-2294.
