The Metropolitan Kansas City Region is pleased to welcome guest speaker Sandy Lerner to our celebration of Jane Austen’s 237th birthday on December 16 from 2:00 to 4:00 in the Cohen Center of the Plaza Library, 4801 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64112.

Many of you will recognize Sandy Lerner as the Chairman of Trustees of Chawton House Library and the Center for the Study of Early English Women’s Writing.  The library’s main collection focuses on women writing in English during the period 1600 to 1830.  Several of our members have had the privilege of conducting research at Chawton House Library, and have enjoyed touring the well restored home and beautiful grounds once owned by Jane Austen’s brother, Edward Austen Knight.

Sandy will be speaking about her book, Second Impressions, written under the pseudonym Ava Farmer.  The novel is set ten years after Pride and Prejudice, and explores the changes to the Darcy family’s life in late Regency England.  As in Austen’s works, the characters undergo the experiences, self-criticism, and self improvement essential to heroes and heroines.

After her lecture, Sandy will autograph copies of her book.  All profits from event book sales will support Chawton House Library.  Please reserve your copy when you register.  You may register any time before the event, but book orders must be made by Friday, November 30.

This event is free and open to the public.  We encourage JASNA members to bring guests.  Students are highly encouraged to attend.

Tea and friendly conversation will follow the lecture.  Please bring your own teacup, and if you like, bring a holiday treat to share.
