Greater New York Region

27th Annual Birthday Meeting: Celebrating Jane Austen on Stage
December 15, 2007

The Greater New York Region of JASNA invites you to celebrate Jane Austen's 232nd birthday on Saturday, December 15, at 1:30 p.m. with a Champagne Birthday Toast and Tea at the General Society Library in New York City.

For the festivities, we searched out our favorite contemporary productions of Northanger Abbey and Pride and Prejudice and invited their creators to describe their creative processes and share samples of their works with us.

Jane Austen

Lynn Marie Macy will talk about adapting Northanger Abbey for her play in which scenes from The Mysteries of Udolpho and Northanger Abbey are ingeniously and entertainingly interwoven. Actors will read selected scenes to illustrate her talking points.

Lindsay Baker and Amanda Jacobs will discuss transforming Pride and Prejudice into a musical that Daily News critic Howard Kissel has called "civilized and exhilarating." Songs from their show will be performed to illustrate their talk.

All are welcome. The cost of the event is $30.00 per person, and advance registration is required. Please print out the registration form located on the Greater New York Region's website and mail it with your check (made payable to JASNA-NY) to the address on the form. Space is limited, so register early. The General Society Library is located at 20 West 44th in New York City (212-921-1767).
