May Gala: Austen's Men

On Saturday, May 24, JASNA's Edmonton Region will host its 2008 Gala in the University of Alberta Arts building. This year's theme is "Austen's Men." There are a limited number of spaces available for this popular annual event, so register early!
The program, which will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will include the following highlights:

- Keynote speaker Nora Foster Stovel will present "'Brother and Sister! No, indeed!': Siblings & Lovers in the Novels of Jane Austen"
- A group participation session on the topic "Heroes, Cads & Bounders" will be led by Jeanne Worton and Sheila Dechant
- Antique clothing expert Angela Young will talk about "Men's Regency Dress"
- Regional Coordinator Beatrice Nearey will offer an illustrated lecture on "Scenes from Regency Life," using the watercolours of Diana Sperling from the book Mrs. Hurst Dancing & Other Scenes from Regency Life 1812-1823. These excerpts are being used with the kind permission of Victor Gollancz Ltd. and the Orian Publishing Group.
The cost of the event is $40 per person and includes lunch and two refreshment breaks. Advance registration is required by May 18, 2008.
