The Southern Arizona Region was pleased to welcome JASNA President Marsha Huff to Tucson on Saturday, October 24, to hear her talk “Viewing Austen Through Vermeer’s Camera Obscura.”

During this fascinating illustrated lecture, Marsha discussed the Dutch painter’s work and compared scenes he created on canvas to scenes from Austen’s novels, showing us eye-opening similarities in the works of the two artists  Although Jan (or Johannes) Vermeer lived in the 17th century and Austen in the 18th, both used their talents to depict female domestic life with fine precision.

Following audience questions, everyone enjoyed a sweet and savory tea reception and the chance to meet and chat with Marsha.  It was an event to remember!
