We are honored to welcome back author Carol J. Adams presenting her 2011 AGM breakout session “Don’t Judge a Book by its (Flannel) Cover: A Caregiver reads Sense and Sensibility.“ Carol has written or edited more than 20 books, and is the author of The Bedside, Bathtub and Armchair Companion Guide to Jane Austen.  She has presented her work on 120 campuses and has been a keynote speaker at international conferences in the UK, Sweden, Canada and Australia.  As a caregiver for more than a decade, she draws on her own experience for this presentation.  Carol’s premise is that if Sense and Sensibility were a body, caregiving might well be its heart.  In this lively discussion, we see how Jane Austen, a caregiver herself, uses scenes of care-giving to illustrate character, offer comic relief and reveal women’s unstable situations, all while furthering the plot.

After the lecture, grab some tea, a scone and a seat at a Whist table.  The winning partners at each table will be awarded prizes and play will continue until 4:00 pm.  The event is open to members and guests and those with an interest in Jane Austen.  Cost of the program and refreshments is $12.00 and reservations are required by 2/1/12.  Las Colinas Country Club is located at 4400 North O’Conner, Irving, Texas, 75062.
