Spend your Sunday afternoon with Lady Susan and Whist
September 14, 2014
Do women who are beautiful, witty, intelligent, selfish, devious, avaricious and/or conniving hold a special interest for you? Then come see those traits all rolled into one as our Fall Meeting will focus on Lady Susan, Jane Austen’s epistolary tale that subverts all the standards of the typical romantic novel. The title character is arguably one of the worst mothers in the entire Jane Austen canon.
Does Reginald get the bride he deserved? Does oppression under the guise of esteem really get your blood boiling? Just love the theater? This meeting is for you! Come hear our very talented members—Baronda Bradley, Jessica Phillips, and Vanessa Welch—enact this lesser known work. After the reading, grab your tea, scones and a partner for the Whist Tournament. You will be home in plenty of time to watch Carrie (the original with Sissy Spacek, not the remake) to see what a really horrible mother truly is.
The event is open to members and guests and those with an interest in Jane Austen. Cost of the program is $12.00. Reservations are requested by 9/14/14 but onsite registration is available. The meeting will be held at Highland Park United Methodist Church in room 120. Highland Park United Methodist Church is located at 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, TX 75205.
