Summer in the Garden with Jane
July 27, 2011
JASNA Utah held a summer event July 27th, in Orem, Utah. In cooperation with Utah Valley University (UVU), JASNA Utah put on a fundraiser called “Summer in the Garden with Jane” to benefit The Forgotten Carols Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded every year to a UVU humanities student by Michael McClene. Mr. McClene is a local musician and author of The Forgotten Carols, a tender story of the healing spirit of Christmas.
Over 60 people attended to hear readings from Northanger Abbey, Sense and Sensibility, Persuasion, and Pride and Prejudice, performed by local actors. A Jane Austen Life Sketch was given, as well as a short lecture on the influence of Jane Austen, both in her time and today, by Anne Jamison, a University of Utah Literature Professor and fellow Janeite.
Hors d’oeuvre were provided by the UVU culinary school, and the gardens of a local mansion made a beautiful setting. What a wonderful way to spend a sunny summer morning!
