On Sunday, March 27, 2011, the Vermont Region of the Jane Austen Society of North America will present “Jane Austen’s London in Fact & Fiction,” an armchair tour through Regency London, with Suzanne Boden and Deb Barnum, your enthusiastic London-obsessed guides. Suzanne Boden is the well-travelled proprietress of The Governor’s House in Hyde Park, where she regularly holds Jane Austen Weekends. Deb Barnum is the owner of Bygone Books, a shop of fine used & collectible books, the Regional Coordinator for the JASNA-Vermont, author of the JASNA-Vermont blog, and compiler of the annual Jane Austen Bibliography.
- Ever wonder Why Austen went to London?
- How she got there, Where she stayed & What she did?
- Was it a “Scene of Dissipation & Vice” or a place of lively “Amusement” filled with Shopping, the Theatre, Art Galleries and Menageries?
- And in her fiction?
- How does Mr. Darcy know where to find Lydia and Wickham?
- And Why does nearly everyone in Sense and Sensibility go to Town? & Where do they stay when they get there?
All this and more absolutely essential Austen biographical and geographical trivia will be presented in this visual feast of a journey through the London of the late 18th – early 19th century! Please join us!
This event will take place on Sunday, March 27, 2011, 2 PM – 4 PM at Champlain College, the Hauke Conference Center, 375 Maple St, Burlington, VT. The event is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served.
