as the Bingley Sisters
Continuing its celebration of the bicentennial of Pride and Prejudice, Friends of Milwaukee Public Library presents an illustrated lecture, “Regency Life in Jane Austen’s England,” co-sponsored by the Wisconsin Region of the JASNA.
The program will take place on Saturday, May 18, at 1:30 PM in the Loos Room of Centennial Hall, 733 North 8th Street in Milwaukee. The event is free and open to the public; seating is limited and reservations are required.  For reservations, please call (414) 286-8720 or email Friends@mpl.org by May 16.
Stepping out of the pages of Pride and Prejudice, Miss Bingley and her sister (Liz Philosophos Cooper and her sister-in-law Molly Philosophos) will appear in period costume to provide an overview of Regency life in the city and the country. Nothing escapes their penetrating gaze, which encompasses the latest fashions, pleasurable pastimes, sophisticated London shops, and visits to great estates, such as Mr. Darcy’s Pemberley. Their talk is fully illustrated with images that bring the world of Pride and Prejudice to life.
