Greater Louisville Region
Jane Austen Festival
July 12 & 13, 2008
JASNA's Greater Louisville Region is sponsoring a two-day festival dedicated to Jane Austen on Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Historic Locust Grove.
JASNA Past President Joan Klingel Ray will be a featured speaker at the event with her talk "Jane Austen for Smarties." Dr. Ray is Professor of English at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs and author of Jane Austen for Dummies.
On Sunday, July 13, a chamber music concert will be held in the ballroom of the historic house at 5:15 p.m. Carla Williams, PhD candidate from Indiana University's Early Music Institute, will play selections from Austen's favorite music on an 1806 Broadwood fortepiano; Rebeka Valentine will provide vocal accompaniment. The entrance fee for the concert is $20 per person, and advance reservations are suggested since seating is limited.
Other festival highlights include a Regency style fashion show, bonnet-making class, and afternoon tea. A Regency Emporium will feature new and antiquarian books, jewelry, fabric, patterns, silk ribbon and more—everything you need to create a Regency-style dress.
General admission to the festival is free for JASNA members and $6 per person for the general public. Additional fees will be charged for certain events, including the concert ($20), afternoon tea ($14) and bonnet class (fee to be determined). JASNA members, guests, and others with an interest in Jane Austen are welcome. Historic Locust Grove is located at 561 Blankenbaker Lane in Louisville, Kentucky.
