A Month of Persuasion
January 8 - February 4, 2008
By the time 2008 was 35 days old, JASNA's Greater New York Region had celebrated the film versions of Persuasion with three wonderful public events.

Penguin Books, PBS/WGBH, and Cooper Union College partnered with us on January 8 for cocktails, a sneak preview of the new adaptation of Persuasion, and a panel discussion. The panel included Rebecca Eaton, Masterpiece Classics; Elda Rotor, Penguin Classics; and our own Past President Elsa Solender. Over 400 people attended.
On January 14 the Greater New York Region led "Monday After" discussions of Persuasion, which had been shown on Masterpiece Theatre the night before. The events were held at Borders Bookstores in the Greater New York area. Our Region is hosting a series of "Monday After" evenings at Borders stores throughout Masterpiece Theatre's "Complete Jane Austen" season.
And finally, the 1995 Persuasion film, starring Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds, was screened at Brooklyn College on February 4. Mr. Hinds attended and joined the panel discussion. An audience of about 500 people attended. "Captain Wentworth" graciously signed autographs and posed for photos with appreciative fans.
