Rochester, New York Region

Jane Austen Ball
May 4, 2008

JASNA's Rochester, New York, Region and the Country Dancers of Rochester will co-sponsor the second annual Jane Austen Ball on Sunday, May 4. The event will be held in the Cutler Union Ballroom of the Memorial Art Gallery on University Avenue in Rochester.

A morning practice session will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon, followed by the Ball from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dance Mistress Joanna Reiner of Philadelphia will call the dance, and Firefly will provide the music.

Dance

Period or fancy dress is encouraged, and some prior exposure to English Country dancing is helpful. If you are a beginner, you can prepare for the Ball by attending optional English Country dance classes for newcomers starting February 24. Workshops on period clothing will also be offered in March for those who want to learn what to wear to the Ball.

Tickets for the Ball are $30 ($20 for students; $15 for non-dancing observers) and include the morning practice session and period refreshments served during the mid-dance break. Advance registration is recommended, since attendance is limited.

A registration form for the Ball, as well as information on the optional beginners' dance classes and period clothing workshops, can be found on the Jane Austen Ball website. If you have questions, contact Richard Sauvain at (585) 442-4681 or rsauvain@gmail.com.
