Jane Austen's love of gardening is apparent in several of her novels. The English love their gardens and, luckily, exported that love to America. We will discuss Austen's garden, the plants that she grew and those she wrote about, as well as some of her influences. How can we re-create the Austen gardens grown from 1800 to 1820? Where are there gardens here in Maryland and the mid-Atlantic area that will inspire us to grow some of Austen's favorite plants? And, where can we find the plants, start the seeds, and re-create some of the magic in our home gardens?
