Banquet & Ball

Costume Rental

Would you like to dress in period costume for the Ball? If so, contact All Dressed Up and select from their extensive selection of period costumes. Costumes are available for both men and women and may include a complete costume or selected pieces to enhance your own look. For your convenience, costumes will be delivered to the Costume Room at the Westin. All you need to do is pick up your previously selected costume during the scheduled time on Saturday and return it on Sunday morning. If you wish to wear the costume at the Post-Convention Sunset Dinner Cruise, then you may make an advanced arrangement to keep the costume until Monday morning. A limited number of costumes will be available for rent on Saturday if you choose not to place your order in advance. All costume rental fees will be paid directly to All Dressed Up.

Photographer

Now that you have a costume, be certain to schedule a portrait session with professional photographer Michaelynn Rose of Rose Photo Studio. Whether alone or with a group of fellow Austenians, capture this experience in a Regency styled photograph. Appointments are available at the Westin all day on Saturday and may be scheduled in advance by contacting Rose Photo Studio or on a walk-in basis. All photography fees will be paid directly to Rose Photo Studio.

Banquet

More information including menus coming later.

Parade

After dinner, members in Regency or “fancy” dress are invited to participate in the Grand Promenade.  Thirty minutes before the ball begins, participants will assemble in the hotel lobby and, weather permitting, stroll down Michigan Avenue.  Upon returning to the hotel, the ball will officially begin as revelers ascend the staircase and enter the Wellington Ballroom.

Regency Ball

The traditional Saturday evening banquet will be followed by the Regency Ball in the Wellington Ballroom. Whether you come to the ball in Regency dress or modern attire, you are sure to enjoy the evening. Dance caller Tom Senior will conduct a talented group of musicians, "Putting on Aires," and preside over the ball. Dance Mistress Mady Newfield, accompanied by an accomplished group of English country dancers, will open the ball by providing a demonstration of the evening's dances. Outside the ballroom, the Wellington Lobby will provide a place to relax, partake of refreshments, and participate in a lively card game such as whist or piquet or enjoy more thoughtful pursuits like chess, backgammon, or dominos.

Tom Senior has been both teaching and dancing for over 3 decades. He is known for his clear instructions and prompting, his brevity in teaching, and his large repertoire of dances. When Philadelphia was his home, he was a member of the Colonial Demonstration team which specialized in dances of the 1780's. He is a fully certificated Scottish Country Dance teacher as well as an accomplished contra and square dance caller. When not dancing, Tom teaches physics to high school students.
