Who Can Join a JASNA Giving Circle?
- All JASNA members in good standing are warmly invited to participate in our Giving Circles.
What Donations Are Applied to Giving Circle Membership?
- Donations are separate from your membership dues. Your Giving Circle contribution goes directly to supporting JASNA’s mission.
- Donations to JASNA, JASNA Canada, JASNA tours, and the AGM count toward Giving Circle eligibility.
- Legacy bequests are not qualifying donations for the purpose of the Giving Circles.
Are Household Members Included in Giving Circles?
- Giving Circle membership is for individuals only. Each person qualifies through their own donation or a gift made on their behalf.
- Example: If both George and Cassandra want to join the Northanger Circle, each needs to donate $100.
Duration of Giving Circle Membership
- Giving Circles run from January 1 through December 31, and membership in a Circle is limited to the year in which the donation is made. However, if you donate on or after December 1, you will be considered a Giving Circle donor through the end of the following year.
- Example: If Fitzwilliam makes a $100 gift to JASNA on December 16, 2026, he will be recognized as a Giving Circle member for this gift through December 31, 2027.
Giving Circle Benefits and Member Recognition
- Benefits are provided to Giving Circle donors and cannot be transferred to others. Enjoy your Giving Circle benefits during the year your gift was made.
- JASNA plans to list the names of Giving Circle donors in the members-only JASNA Member Portal. A donor may opt out of this recognition when filling out the donation form.
- Your donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by local law.
- JASNA reserves the right to change or discontinue Giving Circle benefits offered in future years.
Giving on Behalf of Others
- You are welcome to donate on behalf of another JASNA member. Just remember, only the person who makes the donation can claim a tax deduction. Also, a gift made on behalf of someone else cannot be recorded as a donation in that person's account; it will only be recorded as a donation in your account. Please contact Development@jasna.org for help making this type of gift.
- Example: Marianne donates $500 to JASNA and informs JASNA at the time of the donation that $250 of the gift is on behalf of her friend Lucy. Both Marianne and Lucy become Giving Circle members at the $250 level. Marianne may be eligible for a tax deduction for both gifts. Lucy cannot claim a tax deduction for Marianne’s donation.
- Example: Robert (not a JASNA member) donates for Edward, who is a member of JASNA. Robert, not Edward, may be eligible for the tax deduction. However, as a JASNA member, Edward will be considered a Giving Circle donor.
NOTE: JASNA cannot provide tax advice, so please check with your tax advisor about your specific situation.
JASNA is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity.
